Balkan countries aim trilateral meetings with Trump administration
Albania, Croatia and Montenegro, Balkan countries which signed Friday the founding document of Adriatic Trilateral, aim to hold trilateral meeting with Trump Administration.
Albanian Foreign Ministry said Friday in a statement that Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, Croatian FM, Ivo Stier and Montenegrin FM, Srdjan Darmanovic “discussed the possibility of conducting trilateral meetings with the new US administration, as an opportunity for a coordinated approach in coping with the challenges that our region is facing as well as for the consolidation of Euro-Atlantic course of our countries.”
Three ministers also agreed on close consultation and joint approach in preparation for the next NATO summit. Albania and Croatia already are NATO members, while Montenegro aims to join the alliance in the near future.
Many fear that Trump administration will be less interested and present in Balkans compared to the last administrations since the wars in 90-ies. That would pose a chance for Russia to became more active in the region and raise its influence.
That may have forced ministers to initiate joint initiatives for meetings with Trump administration and other problems the region faces.
“The trilateral meeting among Albania, Croatia and Montenegro is a good example of how countries with a single-minded approach join their efforts to provide the common regional agenda with more synergies and consolidate the position against internal challenges and those imported from conflicting regions,” Albanian Foreign Ministry said. /tvklan.al
