Tahiri issue/ Reacts Ambassador Lu: People must know the truth
US Ambassador in Tirana, Donald Lu, reacted on the Tahiri issue, stressing that people deserve and need to know the truth.
“You are not a judge or prosecutor, but you are the people with the right to vote. If he is innocent, people should know this. If he is guilty, he must face justice,”
said Lu during a meeting with civil society leaders and young people.
“It would not be appropriate for me to say whether Saimir Tahiri is guilty or innocent. But it is extremely important that you as leaders of civil society, you as young people and you as citizens of Albania find out the truth. The right to know the truth does not belong to any political party. It belongs to the citizens of Albania. No one should be above the law.”
Lu’s statements come a day after the parliament ruled against the Serious Crimes Prosecution’s request for authorization to arrest former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri.
Immediately after Donald Lu’s statements, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted by posting on Facebook, saying:
