First candidature for interim chief prosecutor submitted
Ferdinand Elezi is the first official candidature to be sent in the Assembly for the chief prosecutor’s post.
His name comes just one day before the expiration of the parliamentary term for candidatures that will pass on the filter of the Law Commission for the vacancy left by Adriatik Llalla.
According to the parliamentary procedure, candidates after submitting to the Law Commission will pass for voting in the assembly.
On Thursday, the Assembly officially proclaimed the vacancy for the country’s acting chief prosecutor, following the opening of proceedings by the majority in the Laws Commission.
The opposition declared the unconstitutional procedure followed by the majority with the argument that according to the Constitution, the termination of the mandate is ascertained by the High Council of Prosecutor’s Office, an organ which has not yet been filed by parliament due to the lack of candidates brought by civil society.
But the Socialists argued that Adriatica Llalla has completed its 5-year term and that there is no legal space for postponing it.
The interim Chief Prosecutor will remain in office until the constitution of the High Prosecutor’s Office and the election of the new General Prosecutor./tvklan.al
