Albania risks being left without the Court of Appeals

Albania no longer has a functioning Constitutional Court for several months. Due to Vetting, the Supreme Court does not work either. Now the Court of Appeals is also at risk. The alarm is raised by the head of the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets.

Shkëlqim Ganaj said in annual reporting to the Laws Commission that the cause is the high level of corruption.

“Only for us, for the part of the wealth, as far as we are allowed to do, the figure has reached 50.1 percent. The Appellate Judge is the one that has the highest percentage of the problem. I think next year we will be without Appeal Court with this trend that at least appears in the first records”.

The opposition and representatives of international institutions have raised for months the concern that Vetting has kicked off the main courts in the country. The failure of the Council of Appointments in Justice does not give hope for the situation to change in the near future./tvklan.al
