Ahmetaj: PPP contracts not to get stigmatized
The Minister of Finance has commented on the difficulties reflected by the State Department’s report on the investment climate in Albania. Arben Ahmetaj says this is linked to the Justice Reform and the support that is giving to crack down on corruption.
Ahmetaj commented by making a comparison of digits with the previous government and lack of transparency in public procurement and damage to competition from Public Private Partnership projects, pointed out by the report.
Referring to the Public Private Partnerships contracts and mainly those related to road construction, the minister said that it is an instrument that enables the government to carry out within a short period of time investments that would take more than 20 years to be realized. For this he mentioned the Arbri Road as an example.
According to Ahmetaj, the government has set strict rules for managing risks from concession contracts. He said the legal framework for PPPs will improve, while optimistic about increasing foreign investments in Albania from the figures of the first quarter of this year./tvklan.al
