Greek media: Maritime agreement with Albania to be signed soon
Greece agrees to change the maritime border 2009 agreement with Albania. Greek media write this Saturday that the parties are very close to reaching a deal and Athens has agreed to give up some of the claims of the first agreement.
Energypress.gr
cites its credible sources according to which the Greek side acknowledges that until now the creation of Exclusive Economic Zones has been partially built methodologically wrong, a view so far backed by Albania. Greece has also acknowledged that the inland bays should be considered “closed” to apply the relevant provision of the Sea Convention.
According to the same sources, the Albanian side has made its concessions without raising objections to the subterranean extension of Othoni and Ereikos. Greek media say the agreement will pave the way for Greek hydrocarbon search in marine areas 1 and 2. Due to the lack of clear borders, maritime areas 1 and 2 have in the past been the source of contradictions with Albania, which in turn it has promoted research into the marine area 5.
Neighboring media referring to diplomatic sources say that the agreement will be signed soon and will take into account the principle of equality, a principle that Greece may open up problems in determining the border with Turkey in the island area./tvklan.al
