Italian National Anti-Mafia prosecutor, Franko Roberti, said Thursday that the drug cultivation in Albania and drug trafficking toward the other side of Adriatic has tripled during the last two years.

Roberti made the comments after meeting with Albanian Prosecutor General, Adriatik Llalla, in capital Tirana.

He said due to the low price and the short distance between two countries, the demand for “made in Albania” drugs in Italy is high.

“Drug trafficking between Albania and Italy has been increasing in recent years,” he said adding that together with Albanian counterparts they need to understand the reasons behind that as well as improve the strategies of cooperation.

He said that the drug reaching Italy from Albania is cheaper than that reaching from Morocco.

On the other side, Albanian Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla requested a better cooperation among two countries to stop the drug trafficking.
