Kosovo suspends dialogue with Serbia until former PM released
Kosovo Parliament voted to suspend the EU brokered dialogue with Belgrade on Thursday, until the release of former PM Ramaush Haradina, who was detained in France this year on Serbia’s request.
The resolution adopted by the Parliament was proposed by Haradinaj’s party, The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
Former Kosovo PM in 2004-2005, Ramush Haradinaj, was arrested in France on Jan. 4, after an arrest warrant was issued by Serbia back in 2004.
Haradniaj was later released on bail, but he is not allowed to leave France until another court verdict on April, 6. Serbia has issued arrest warrants for tens of former Kosovo Liberation Army fighters and accuses them to have killed Serbian civilians. Haradniaj was previously twice found innocent by the International Court of Hague.
78 Kosovo MPs voted in favor of the resolution and one against.
The resolution also asks the European Union to force Serbia cancel all Kosovo political figures arrest warrants, issued in the wake of 1998-1999 Kosovo War.
Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008 and is recognized by 114 countries, including the U.S., Germany and France. Serbia and its ally Russia do not recognize Kosovo as an independent state./tvklan.al
