Minister of Justice discharges 8 prisons directors
Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj through a press conference has announced the dismissal of some of the prisons directors in several Albania cities.
The prisons directors in Lushnja, Lezha, Tepelena, Berat, Rrogozhina, Saranda, Peqin, and Durrës city have been dismissed due to the abuse of duty.
Prison officials who have been detained in violation of the law have been discharged and they are being investigated.
“The inspections carried out by the inspection teams raised by the General Directorate of Prisons and the Ministry of Justice have highlighted serious repeated violations of the law and internal regulation of prisons, evidenced violations that endanger prison security and undermine public confidence.
Between July 2017 and October 2017, over 150 cases of banned items, cell phones, telephone cards, alcoholic drinks and other prohibited items were evidenced.
