Number of births in Albania decreasing
The population growth in Albania has seen the largest decline in the years during the first 6 months of 2018. According to the Albanian Institute of Statistics, natural populations of the population for the period April – June of this year were 770 inhabitants, from 2300 in the same period last year. In total the population has shrunk by 1530 inhabitants, or by 70% reports The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).
The capital has had a bigger addition of the population compared to other counties, while Gjirokastra, Vlora, Berat, Korça and Fieri had a negative contraction of the relationship between births and deaths. Births were reduced by 25% for the second quarter of the year compared to the January-March period.
Over the last two years, aging populations and declining fertility have started to emerge in our country, in contrast to a few years ago when Albania was on the map of countries known for the high number of births and the young age of the population./tvklan.al
