The annual work analysis of the General Directorate of Prisons was held at the premises of the Ministry of Justice. The meeting was attended by Justice Minister Etilda Gjonaj, Director General of the Prison Director, Arben Çuko and 24 directors of the General Directorate of Prisons in the country.

While analyzing the situations and problems noted in these institutions, Minister Gjonaj said that a great deal is being done to redesign the penitentiary system through a structural and legal reform.

These laws, according to the Minister, will regulate the manner of recruitment, transfer, retirement or dismissal of a Prison Police Officer, ending political interference and enabling a special status for prison police officers.

According to the Justice Minister, 2018, is the year of great reforms in the penitentiary system. Following the reform of the selection of new heads of prisons, the recruitment method for prison staff will also change, which will also be subject to the Vetting process.

Minister Gjonaj once again re-emphasized the duties they have to fulfill in the three-month trial period, the duties related to prison security, and the fight against corruption in the staff of the institutions.

The Minister also paid special attention to the implementation of the General Regulation on Prisons, pointing out that disregarding or enforcing this document would be the direct responsibility of the Prison Directors./tvklan.al
