Thaci discusses visa liberalization with EU’s Juncker
President Hashim Thaci discussed Kosovo’s visa liberalization process with the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
“Being aware that there is no more important and more urgent issue for Kosovo and our citizens than ending the unfair isolation of our citizens, my focus was on the completion of the visa liberalization process”, said President Thaçi on Thursday, according to his official website.
Juncker, who is a supporter of the European perspective for all Western Balkan countries, said it will be impossible for him to conclude this process if the Assembly of Kosovo fails to ratify the agreement on the marking of the borderline between Kosovo and Montenegro.
“This situation is totally absurd and unacceptable and all Kosovo MPs are responsible for this unfair isolation. Therefore, I once again call, on behalf of the citizens of Kosovo, to put the interest of Kosovo and our citizens before their personal interests and the interests of their parties. Their vote in favor of the ratification of the agreement on demarcation puts an end to the unfair isolation of Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.
Kosovo opposition parties oppose the demarcation agreement with Montenegro arguing that it grants additional land to Podgorica. They have blocked the vote in parliament many times using tear gas.
During the two-day visit to Brussels, President Thaçi met with the highest leaders of the European Union, from whom he has received support for the European perspective of Kosovo.
Kosovo citizens are the only ones in Western Balkans who are not allowed to travel freely in Schengen Zone without a visa.
