According to Interior Minister, Fatmir Xhafaj, the fight against organized crime is a great challenge for all.

“Organized crime is a gangrene that erodes our societies. It forces us to pay big, democratic, social and economic costs”.

This is what he stated during the speech held on Monday’s conference on this topic.

This criminal phenomenon, according to the minister, is no longer local or cross-border, it has become a global phenomenon and has demonstrated great adaptation and development skills to political and social change.

Speaking of the “Power of Law” operation, which aims precisely to crack down on criminal groups and their illegal assets, Xhafaj said that the phase of cataloging criminal groups with their data has already been completed.

“The preliminary phase, the cataloging of criminal groups with data on persons, their criminal ties, the serious criminal activities allegedly committed by them, the assets they possess, the economic investments made with income from criminal activity, the areas impact, links to other groups abroad, or support provided over the years to facilitate their activity”.

Xhafaj focused especially at the Vetting, the police and the judiciary. He said that soon the first results are expected to be seen.

“Vetting in the State Police will help us clean up the State Police from incriminated or incapable individuals. These initiatives come timely, rely on and are in sync with the Justice Reform process that has entered its most important stage: Vetting in the ranks of judges and prosecutors where we are looking forward to seeing the first results of this process, as well as at the stage of establishing new institutions of the justice system”
