Xhafaj in the US, asks the FBI’s establishment in Tirana
On the third day of his official visit to the United States, Minister Fatmir Xhafaj met with FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich, at the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Minister Xhafaj emphasized the importance and significance of the cooperation with this Agency, especially with the Sofia office in Bulgaria, at Albania’s efforts to strengthen law enforcement and the war against crime.
The Minister asked for support from FBI through the appointment of a dedicated officer to Albania.
On the other hand, FBI Deputy Director Bowdich first stated that Albania is not like the many places he has seen during his experience, where major problems of organized crime and corruption exist.
Moreover, evaluating the reforms undertaken by the Albanian Government to reform the police and especially the Vetting process, Bowdich noted that the values and standards on which these reforms are based reflect those pursued by the FBI.
Regarding the request submitted by Minister Xhafaj, the deputy director of FBI said that he sees the request positively and will discuss it to assess the concrete possibilities of its realization. In conclusion, Interior Minister Xhafaj invited Bowdich to visit Tirana./tvklan.al
